I have entered an ALL FEMALE drumming competition aiming to seek, support and celebrate the impact of female drummers, Hit Like A Girl 2012 is the first ever drumming contest for girls and women — sponsored by leading drum equipment companies Crush, TRX, Vater, Evans, and SKB, along with major drum media companies, including Tom-Tom: The Magazine for Female Drummers, DRUM!, and others. Voting is NOW OPEN from february 15 - april 15 2012.

Performance Drumming

So i have some interesting news for you all today, i was approached via youtube by this drummer who was creating a site for 'performance drummers' i.e. drummers who do stick tricks / visuals. The site is to help people learn tricks and also share tricks with other drummers. i think the site is a really cool idea!! So the owner of the site, Lenny Vitulli has asked me to be apart of this awesome new website, of course i said yes! :D

Thursday Night @ Slacks

Last night (thursday december 15/2011) I had the pleasure of playing with Hayley Stark in Toronto at a wicked little bar called Slacks. It was the first time i played with Hayley Stark on full kit... ive played a few shows with them on the cajon but this was the first with full kit, people seemed to like it and i had a bunch of fun.

Randomly part way through the night while we were watching the lovely Anna Sudac play some awesome originals on acoustic guitar she asked me to come up on stage with her and play drums while she did a cover of Eminem's 'Without Me'. it was totaly unplanned and awesome!!! ... here is a short video of that silly performance :) enjoy!

Near the end of the evening after i had finished playing my set with Hayley Stark, the awesome Mia Moth did her thing. As soon as i got home i looked her up and she is REALLY AWESOME!!! here is a live video of her performing her song 'Block'

So all in all it was a really fun night, great musicians, great little bar, great people! ... id do it all again for sure! :)

Green Cup (Brampton) W/ Hayley Stark

Nov 17, i played an acoustic show w/ HayleyStark in Brampton at a cafe called Green Cup. Hayley Stark now has a residency there and play every week on Thursdays, so come out and say hi! Green Cup is an awesome lil coffee joint, i officially love it after only being there once, wicked vibes and the staff is so rad!

Graffiti's w/ Hayley Stark

November 8th, i played my first gig with an awesome band called Hayley Stark (www.myspace.com/ilovehayleystark). We played at a little bar in Kensington Market in Toronto called Graffiti's. Really small venue, but i think it kinda added to the performance... super intimate and laid back vibes all around i really liked it. We played a 45min set ... since it was such a small place i didnt play full kit, i just brought my Cajon. Here is a video of our opening song "Two Tickets" (also happens to be one of my personal favorites by Hayley Stark) I hope you enjoy it.

Where The Fence is Low

so me and some friends are going to see LIGHTS on Nov 25, at the Sound Academy in Toronto ON. me and my guitar/singer made an acoustic cover of one of her newest songs called 'where the fence is low' check it out!

also... if you dont know who LIGHTS is ... she is a canadian musician from toronto who does electronic pop kinda stuff... really cool, here is her newest music video if you want an example of what she sounds like. :)

PINKtober @ Hardrock Cafe Niagara Falls

so last night me and my band MITTENZ played the HardRock Cafe in Niagara Falls, we had a loooooooooooong set. we played from, around 5pm-9pm, it was a ton of fun.
we all wore pink to support the PINKtober theme of the night in support of breast cancer research! ... little surprises here and there made the night loads of fun, everyone's family and friends came out to support. just wanted to thank everyone who came out last night!

Canada's Got Talent Audition!!

Today was the day!! Woke up at 5:30am and went to the Rogers Center in Toronto Ontario for the CGT audition with my band MITTENZ (www.themittenz.com) it was crazyyyy! we waited outside in a MASSIVE line for about 3hrs, then once we got inside and got our number we waited probably another 2hrs till our number was called. Once we had our audition (which went really really well) we were told that we wont hear if we will make it onto the LIVE SHOW round of the show until October.

i learned a bunch of stuff happens on reality tv shows such as this one and America's Got Talent, or American Idol. Those types of shows, because we basically did an audition to see if we were good enough to Audition on the REAL show i.e. the live show with the 3 celeb judges that you see on t.v.

so in my opinion, the audition went really really well, based off what the judges said. so hopefully i will be receiving an email before Oct 31 saying that we get to do the live show, because that would be AMAZING! :D

EXCITING STUFF

ooooook, sorry i havnt blogged in a few days, i have been RIDICULOUSLY busy. so i have a few things i would like to mention, this thursday (tomorrow) i will be jamming with an awesome band called Hayley Stark [i will post a video of their stuff below] and yea, i am really excited to be jamming with them, they are awesome girls who are SUPER talented.

in other news, i applied for an audition for Canada's Got Talent (canadian version of america's got talent) you can check what they are all about here - http://gottalent.ca/ so i applied a long time ago, and didnt think that my band MITTENZ got it cuz we'd be waiting so long and heard nothing, but i got an email this morning saying we DO HAVE THE AUDITION! so im stoked, it will be held tuesday sept 27 (next tuesday) at the Rogers Center in Toronto. so im pretty excited and stoked to do that!!

just thought id give u all a nice big update :)

Work, & Studio Update

yes i realize i am putting the blog up really late, and i have a really lame excuse. That excuse is ... i was playing Sims Social on facebook. lmfao! yes i know its super lame, but ive been addicted to the game since a few days ago when i started playing it. So that is my reason for putting the blog up so late today. my bad :P

anyway... so today was pretty great if i do say so myself, it was the first official start day at my new job (m7s) and it went really well i think. It is going to take some time for me to get used to the system they have going on the computer there, but i think i am catching on at a good speed. I worked desk mainly today, doing secretarial work and such, i was SUPPOSED to have a drum student at 6:30pm but he failed to show up. thats ok though i get paid any way (YAY).

but i wont bore you too much with stories about my work. lets see, my band Mittenz is back in the studio tomorrow doing some finishing touches on our 6 song EP. I think all that is left is guitar solos and vocals. i cant wait to release it and hear the finished product.. SUPER EXCITED.

Busy busy busy

Well now that all the summer fun is over with and the colder weather is creeping in, my life is going to get even busier if you can imagine!! Today i have to go to my new job for a meeting before the official start of the semester (its a music school i am teaching at) so today i will get my official work schedule. On top of that, i have my other job at Rehearsal Pro, as well as my many music endeavors *which i will be sure to keep you updated on* :D so things shall be getting super busy now that the fall has arrived, but i will be sure to do my best to post once a day to keep you all updated.

End of summer

just got back from playing the gig up in muskoka. TONS of fun as usual, its a shame we couldnt stay longer this time. Well it was a good end to the summer for sure! here is a picture from last night. i will post a video up, probably tomorrow of one of the songs we played during the show. ;)

Gig in Muskoka

This Saturday (tomorrow) i will be going up to Muskoka with my band MITTENZ (www.myspace.com/ilovemittens) to play a private party. we did this a few weeks ago i think it was Aug 27 / 2011, it was a TON of fun and i'm so stoked we get to play up there again this weekend. besides the obvious awesomeness of performing for all the great folks up there, other added perks include:
swimming
wakeboarding
camp fires ... etc
so you can see why i'm so stoked to go up. Unfortunetly i will only get to stay for one night because i have to work on sunday (ew). Either way... i am definitely excited about this gig, should be a great time.
